Throughput is the rate at which a machine, line, or plant produces acceptable output over a given period, usually expressed in units, parts, or volume per hour or shift. Capacity statements, production reports, logistics documents, and performance dashboards use the term where the denominator, time basis, and definition of acceptable output must be clear to the reader.
