Regulatory documents governing market entry into China are published primarily in Chinese, and the Chinese text is the authoritative version. English material in circulation is generally unofficial and often reflects superseded requirements.
Foreign companies entering China often face a basic problem: the regulations, standards and regulatory documents they need to understand are primarily published in Chinese.
Angel Translation provides China regulatory research, source identification, regulation-status verification, clause mapping and multilingual documentation support for companies preparing to enter the Chinese market.
We do not provide legal opinions or legal representation. Our role is to help international companies understand what Chinese regulatory documents say, identify the requirements relevant to their business, and turn those findings into usable multilingual documentation.
Standards, administrative measures and technical requirements are issued in Chinese. Working from an unofficial English rendering means working one translation away from the requirement — and often from an older version of it.
02
The output has to become documents
Understanding a requirement is not the deliverable. Registration dossiers, labelling, instructions for use, technical files and contracts are. Research and language work connect at exactly that point.
03
Terminology is set at the research stage
When Chinese, English and any third-language terms are aligned while the research is done, the documentation that follows inherits that alignment instead of re-deciding it.
Sectors we research
These are the sectors where we have established research capability. Each entry names the competent authority, the document types involved, and what we verify.
Medical Devices
Device registration material submitted in China is required in Chinese, and the terminology used has to stay consistent with what has already been approved.
Authority

Documents
Registration dossier · Instructions for use · Labelling and packaging text · Technical requirements · Clinical evaluation material
What we verify
Which documents in a submission carry a Chinese-language requirement
How terminology in a dossier aligns with previously approved material
Where a requirement has been revised since your last submission
Automotive & New Energy Vehicles
Vehicle and component requirements in China are set through national standards and administrative measures, with accompanying documentation required in Chinese.
Authority
SAMR — State Administration for Market Regulation retrieved 2026-08-25
Documents
Owner manual · Safety warnings and labels · Type approval and technical files · Service and maintenance documentation
What we verify
Which national standards apply to a given vehicle or component category
Safety signal-word usage against the applicable Chinese standard
Consistency between on-screen text, manual and service documentation
Semiconductors
For semiconductor products the pressure is less about language mandates and more about precision: specification conditions and patent claim scope have to survive into Chinese without shifting.
Authority
CNIPA — China National Intellectual Property Administration retrieved 2026-08-25
Documents
Patent applications and claims · Datasheets and specifications · Design kit documentation · Technical filings
What we verify
How claim wording renders across jurisdictions without altering scope
Whether specification conditions stay attached to their values
Terminology consistency across datasheet, design kit and filings
Industrial Robotics
Machinery and robotics entering China require Chinese-language operating and safety documentation, with safety terminology tied to the wording of the governing standards.

How we handle regulatory data
Every fact traces to a source
Regulation references, dates and current status carry a source and a retrieval date. You are not asked to take our word for it.
Uncertain is stated as uncertain
Where status cannot be confirmed against the official text, it is marked as such and what remains to be verified is named — rather than presented as settled.
Unverified data is not published
Research not yet checked against the official-language text is not put into search index. We apply that rule to our own site.

Common questions
Are Chinese regulations available in official English?
The authoritative text is the Chinese version. English renderings in circulation are generally unofficial, are produced by a range of parties, and may reflect a superseded version. They are useful for working understanding; determinations of legal effect rest with the Chinese text.
Should we use a law firm or a language service provider?
For legal determinations, litigation support, notarization or filing representation, engage qualified counsel. For locating the governing text, verifying whether it is still in force, mapping the relevant provisions to your documents, and producing the multilingual documentation that follows, a language service provider is the appropriate partner. The two are complementary, not alternatives.
How current is the research?
Every entry carries a retrieval date, because that is the only honest way to state regulatory information. Requirements change; a finding without a date cannot be assessed a year later.
Do you cover industries outside the five listed?
The five listed are where we have established research capability and delivery history. For other sectors, tell us the product and target scope and we will confirm whether we can research it properly before taking it on.
What does the engagement produce?
A regulatory research report with clause mapping, status verification, a regulator list, source citations with retrieval dates, and — where the scope includes it — a business mapping table, bilingual terminology and a documentation-requirements list.
How is it priced?
By project scope. Research breadth, product category, document types and language coverage vary widely, so there is no fixed rate card.
Is this a translation service tier?
No. Regulatory research is a separate service line and sits before translation rather than above it. It is not a tier of the L1–L4 translation service levels.
Important notice
This page provides regulatory research and information mapping. It does not constitute a legal opinion, legal advice or representation.
Regulations are amended, repealed and superseded. Every status, date and reference on this page should be read against the retrieval date shown alongside it.
Determinations of legal effect rest with the official-language text, the official gazette and the competent authority, and where required with qualified counsel.
