Bandgap带隙

A bandgap is the energy range between the valence band and the conduction band in a semiconductor material, where no electronic states are available for carriers. In semiconductor documentation, the term determines light absorption and emission wavelengths, intrinsic carrier concentration, junction built-in voltage, and the temperature dependence of device behavior, and it is a key physical parameter in materials comparisons.

Where this term appears

In localization work, the term bandgap appears in material property tables, photodetector and LED datasheets, sensor documentation, and semiconductor physics training content. It also occurs in simulation model descriptions, process integration documents, and academic abstracts where silicon, germanium, and compound semiconductor behavior is compared across different temperature and doping ranges.

The mistake that shows up most often

A common error is incorrectly translating bandgap inconsistently as “带隙宽度,” “禁带宽度,” or “能隙,” or confusing it with a discrete energy level rather than an energy range. In optoelectronic texts, ambiguous wording around wavelength, voltage, and material temperature performance can distort claims about detection range, emission color, and device operating limits.

Why consistent rendering matters

Terminology must stay consistent across datasheets, design kits and patent filings. A single inconsistent parameter can propagate into fabrication decisions or weaken a patent claim, and IP confidentiality applies to every document in the chain.

Angel Translation locks terms like this into a project terminology base before expert review begins, so the same source term resolves to the same target term across every document in a submission — and stays consistent in the next revision. See the 8-step AI + expert workflow.
