Readability可读性

Readability describes how easily final target-language text can be read, understood, and used by its intended audience after translation. In localization, it is not only about short sentences or simple words; it also depends on register, terminology, cultural references, sentence rhythm, layout, and how naturally the text fits the document type, audience, and medium in which it will be read.

Where this term appears

Readability is evaluated during editing, in-country review, and linguistic sign-off for user interfaces, help content, marketing copy, and technical documentation. Reviewers use style guides, readability metrics, and audience knowledge to decide whether a translation is clear, natural, and suitable for the target locale; this often determines whether to simplify source complexity or keep it.

The mistake that shows up most often

A common mistake is conflating readability with overly simplified language, which can make technical or marketing content sound unprofessional or lose meaning. Another is applying readability formulas designed for other languages or content types, leading reviewers to ‘correct’ text that is actually appropriate for the target audience rather than assessing naturalness in context.

Why consistent rendering matters

For creative and consumer content the failure mode is flatness, not inaccuracy — and flatness passes an accuracy check. Terms here also carry technical constraints (reading speed, character budgets) that are part of the brief.

Angel Translation locks terms like this into a project terminology base before expert review begins, so the same source term resolves to the same target term across every document in a submission — and stays consistent in the next revision. See the 8-step AI + expert workflow.
